Since Wraith was 10 years old he has been unable to walk and has been reliant on an electrically powered wheelchair for his mobility needs. This chair is now in need of replacement.

What is this unique event? For such a remarkable young man we are attempting a remarkable event “The Three Peaks Challenge”. This involves reaching the summit of the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scaffell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) in 24 hours. If this was not remarkable enough the challenge will be completed on unicycles, we believe this has never been attempted before.

In total the challenge will require us to traverse approximately 25 miles of mountainous terrain with a vertical elevation of 11200 feet and also to drive 500 miles between the mountains all in 24 hours . This will be very challenging, to say the least. Additionally we will be unable to ride some of the route (for example footpaths or when it is too steep) and we will then be forced to carry our unicycles. Our Team of 8, which includes 6 riders and 2 support drivers, all come from the unique field of unicycling.

Who are the team?  All 8 members of the team are competent unicyclists riding many styles of unicycling – Muni (Mountain unicycling), trials, unicycle hockey, freestyle etc. and have all competed in 24hr mountain bike races – on unicycles of course. Here is some random unicycle related trivia about them.

The riders will be;

• Gary Halford (Wraith’s father) – has ridden Snowdon and was runner-up in the 2006 British unicycle hockey competition.
• Steve Colligan – has bungee jumped in New Zealand, on a unicycle, and has unicycled on all three of the peaks we will be attempting.
• Roger Davies – is the Managing Director of the Unicycle.com (UK) and won multiple medals at the 2006 unicycle world championships (UNICON).
• Sam Wakeling - rode a unicycle over 1000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 23 days.
• Phil Himsworth – Mountain Mayhem veteran and has ridden the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride, on a unicycle.
• Tue Johansen – the king of "sleepless in the saddle" 24 hour mountain bike race this year; he came, he rode, he conquered (and got very muddy).

 And the support drivers will be;

• Miark - has over 10 years experience in unicycling and works for Unicycle.com (UK)
• Paul Royle – has ridden the London to Brighton bike ride, on a unicycle

We hope you will feel generous in your sponsorship to help us reach our target of £5000 and perhaps even surpass it. Any money above the cost of the wheelchair will be donated to the Joseph Patrick Trust who provide financial support towards specialist equipment for people with muscular dystrophy.
